Security Component
Please note that as of 1 January 2007, the current Security Component will no longer be charged on all shipments billed in New Zealand.
As the leader in the express freight industry, DHL Express continuously reinvests in our organisation to strengthen the service quality provided to you and your business. Over recent years, our industry has been faced with ever increasing security requirements.
Investments made
In order to maintain our high service standard and minimise time delays for our customers, DHL Express has taken a proactive approach by making significant investments in security. This has meant new technology, infrastructure, personnel and training, including the appointment of the only dedicated Security Manager within the industry in New Zealand.
Our regulatory responsibilities
Such investments have ensured that we are compliant with regulatory responsibilities as detailed in the Civil Aviation Act, Aviation Crime Act and by New Zealand Customs Service. These investments have also enabled ongoing security risk assessments, to ensure that we further protect your shipments using the processes and technology that we implement.
What we have achieved
In 2006, we invested in security for further upgrading of all our facilities, including technology. As industry leader, DHL Express needs to take a pro-active approach in the security area of our business.
In September 2006, we have achieved Technology Asset Protection Association (TAPA) certification for our international Gateways in Auckland and Wellington. Our facilities underwent a rigorous and detailed audit conducted by independent TAPA trained and accredited auditors. By ensuring that our facilities and processes meet and exceed required standards, we have greater control of our shipments and can minimise the time delays that sometimes result from increased border safety measures.

What is TAPA?
The Technology Asset Protection Association (TAPA) is a non-profit organisation set up by representatives from manufacturing and high-tech industries, freight forwarders, integrators and professional consulting companies. The association was created to guarantee high security standards in the transportation of high-value technology products to minimise monetary and asset losses incurred due to theft during the shipment process. Facilities are certified only after they have undergone a rigorous and detailed audit conducted by independent TAPA-trained and accredited auditors.
DHL is the pioneer in terms of TAPA support and compliance. Across the Asia-Pacific region, DHL is leading the charge for the rest of the logistics industry in both security investment and the number of TAPA certified facilities.
